Bio-Fuel

Internationally, there is growing interest in the use of duckweed as a bio-fuel feedstock.

At the First International Conference on Duckweed Research and Application (ICDRA), held in Chengdu in 2011, researchers from around the world met to share their findings.

Duckweed has the potential to provide a fast growing, efficient, renewable and sustainable feedstock for the green energy industry.

Duckweed has been used to produce fuels from bio-diesel to ethanol and butanol, as well as powering electricity generators.

Significant pilot projects are already in operation in the US, Europe, China and South Africa.
