Duckweed’s greatest asset is its ability to control the growth of algae by forming a blanket above the algae and therefore restricting available sunlight.
The reduction of nutrients have minimal effect on the growth of algae as algae has a far less nutrient requirement than that needed to sustain growth of duckweed.

With a protein level up to 50 % (surpassing that of Soybean) duckweed’s attraction as a food source is not surprising.
Duckweed as a food also has higher concentrations of the essential amino acids, such as leucine, arginine and valine as well as trace minerals, pigments and xanthophyll.

In a pond covered with duckweed, you can expect a decrease in common pollutants such as nitrogen, an increase in water clarity and water disinfection.
There will also be changes evident in the levels of ammonia, Tot K Nitrogen, Nitrite, Nitrate and Phosphorus.

While performing tests on duckweed in both a domestic and commercial environment it was noted that the duckweed attracted more and more frogs, with an accelerating abundance of aquatic life forms and substantial reductions in observed mosquito larvae.
Other life forms were observed drinking and frequenting the Duckweed Secondary Waste Water pond which was previously quite void of life.
